| Char between tectonic plates! |
Ok, to be technically correct, the title should be "between two continental plates". This morning we got picked up by
Arctic Adventures (actually they subcontracted out to
diveiceland.com) and headed over to
Þingvellir National Park and jumped into the frigid
Silfra fissure. It's a fissure between the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates! In addition to that, the water is crazy clear with visibility up to 100+ meters (back home in Monterey, 5 meters is a "good day"). However the water is a mere 2 degrees Celsius, so it's pretty chilly. We'd partly decided to do this dive to refresh ourselves on dry-suit diving (for another dive we're planning in Iceland) and partly because this was said to be a super awesome dive. It was pretty sweet!

What Char thinks
about eating whale |
The 2 dives didn't actually take that long, so we were back at the hotel in the early afternoon. Did a bit more wandering around town, then had lunch at the
Sea Baron. This was cool for two reasons:
- The Sea Baron himself was there and gave us postcards with him on the front.
- I tried whale! Don't worry, it's the non-endangered minke whale... kind of tasted like 80% beef and 20% liver.
Next up, we took the car out to
this yarn store where we bought yet more yarn. Hit up the large
Kringlan mall next. After getting a coffee there, we asked the barista where the movie theatre was and in addition to telling us, she conveniently had a 2-for-1 coupon that's only good on Thursdays (and it
was a Thursday!). Woohoo. With coupon in hand, we went to the theatre and saw
Star Trek.
On the drive home we stopped and took photos of
The Sun Voyager sculpture (sure is handy having daylight most of the day, you can really get lots done).

I would make the same face if I were faced with a skewer of whale.
